Overview

A mid-sized e-commerce brand operating in the GCC region came to Trendaway with a underperforming Google Ads account that was bleeding budget on low-intent traffic. Their existing agency had set up basic Search campaigns with broad match keywords and no conversion tracking optimization. We took a ground-up approach: auditing the entire account structure, rebuilding conversion tracking, and implementing a multi-campaign strategy that leveraged Google's most advanced AI-driven bidding solutions.

Challenge

The client's previous campaigns were generating only 1.2X ROAS with inconsistent monthly performance. Their product feed was unoptimized with missing attributes, poor image quality, and incorrect categorization. Conversion tracking was underreporting by an estimated 35% due to missing enhanced conversions. The brand was considering pausing Google Ads entirely and shifting budget fully to Meta.

Strategy

We started with a complete technical overhaul. First, we rebuilt the product feed with optimized titles, high-resolution images, and proper Google Product Category taxonomy. We implemented enhanced conversions for web and adjusted conversion values to reflect true profit margins. The campaign architecture included: (1) Performance Max campaigns segmented by product margin tier, (2) Standard Shopping campaigns for top-performing categories, (3) Dynamic Search Ads to capture long-tail queries, (4) RLSA campaigns with custom audience segments, and (5) Brand Defense campaigns to protect against competitor conquesting. We used target ROAS bidding starting at 2.5X and gradually scaling to 4.5X as the algorithm accumulated conversion data.

Results

Within 90 days, ROAS climbed from 1.2X to 3.1X. By month six, the account consistently maintained 3.5X+ ROAS. The full 12-month campaign generated $1.13M in attributable revenue from $289K in ad spend. Performance Max campaigns drove 62% of total revenue, while Shopping campaigns contributed 24%. The feed optimization alone improved click-through rates by 34%. The client has since doubled their Google Ads budget and expanded into two additional markets.

Key Takeaways

  • Feed optimization is the foundation of e-commerce success on Google - investing in high-quality product data pays exponential returns
  • Performance Max works best when segmented by business priority (margin, seasonality, inventory depth) rather than running a single catch-all campaign
  • Enhanced conversions implementation typically recovers 20-40% of underreported conversions, directly improving bidding algorithm performance
