March 2024 will be remembered as the month social commerce became mainstream in Saudi Arabia. TikTok Shop launched with full functionality — in-video product tagging, live shopping events, and a dedicated Shop tab. Within the first 30 days, over 2,000 Saudi businesses onboarded.
For our e-commerce clients, this meant a new sales channel with zero friction — users could see a product in a video and buy it in 3 taps. Conversion rates on TikTok Shop were 2.8X higher than traditional TikTok Ads driving to external websites.
The key differentiator: the checkout experience was native, removing the drop-off that typically happens when users leave the app. Live shopping events became the star format — one fashion brand generated 890K SAR in sales during a 2-hour live stream with 12K concurrent viewers.
The ecosystem matured rapidly: fulfillment partners, affiliate creators, and shop analytics tools all launched simultaneously. For media buyers, TikTok Shop required a completely different skill set — inventory management, live event production, and creator coordination alongside traditional ad buying.
