August 2024 made privacy compliance a technical requirement, not just a legal one. Google Consent Mode v2 introduced two new parameters — ad_storage and analytics_storage — allowing granular consent management.

For brands operating in KSA and UAE but serving European customers, this was critical. Implementation required updating Google Tags, Google Tag Manager containers, and cookie consent banners.

The impact on data quality was measurable: without proper consent mode setup, conversion modeling lost 15-25% of attributable conversions. We implemented a server-side tagging architecture for a major client, routing all data through a first-party domain before sending to Google.

This preserved measurement accuracy while respecting user consent choices. Meta also updated its Conversions API, adding support for user consent signals that could be passed alongside event data.

The trend was clear: privacy-first measurement was becoming the only measurement. Marketers who delayed implementation saw their attribution accuracy degrade month over month.
